An Adventure of Cosmic Porportions

Have you ever experienced that sudden intense longing to be part of some exciting adventure? Some grand quest, bold mission, or heroic exploit? This MK has! Often! Sometimes the mundane-ness of everyday life weighs heavy on my soul and I long to stretch my vision, my abilities and talents, my energy to something “greater”. I think this is not an uncommon phenomenon for an MK!

Recently I watched the extended version of the film “Lord of the Rings”. I watched totally enthralled by the interviews and discussions with the directors, cast, and crew as they traced the production of the film from its first glimmer to the clean sweep of the Oscars. They talked about the years of planning and preparation and finally production. They spoke of camaraderie and commitment, of sacrifice and fun, of intense groundwork and masterful presentation. Finally they showed footage of the Oscars – the climax to all the hard work and perseverance. It was a thrilling odyssey.

As I went to bed that night after watching the sweep of the Oscars I said to the Lord, “So what about Your Kingdom? What adventure of cosmic proportions have I been tasked with?” Instantly Paul’s statement of his mission came to mind.

Colossians 1:28,29 We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me. (NIV)

What an adventure! And we can all be involved!

A Recovering MK

I am a recovering MK and I am trying to understand myself. I have struggled with the itch to go somewhere rather than stay in one place. I have struggled with the question of identity – “Who am I?” – “What am I?”

At our home church we have been studying the letter to the Colossians and I have been reminded over and over of my identity in Christ and the hope that there is in our position in Him.

Colossians 1:27b “…God has chosen to make known … the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (NIV)
